History of Panna Meena Ka Kund
Water is used in most Hindu ceremonies and thus most temples are built around water bodies. Similarly, water conservation structures were built near the temple in ancient times. And Panna Meena ka kund is not an exception.
It is believed that Panna Meena stepwell is over 1000 years old. These were constructed in the times of Meena Dynasty in Amber. However, the current structure is approximately 400 years old. Interesting folklore is related to the place. Meena Warriors use to carry their weapons all the time thus making it difficult for the Rajputs to overthrow them from the Amer crown. But, it was on the eve of Deepawali that the Meena warriors would put away their weapons to take a dip in the step well and perform a pooja. Rajputs took advantage of the fateful day and killed all the unarmed Meena warriors to claim the crown.
Thus, Panna Meena Ka Kund is named after the Meena King, Panna Meena.
